Le court métrage J'ai faim, j'ai froid a été restauré en 2023 par CINEMATEK et la Cinémathèque française, sous la supervision du directeur de la photographie du film, Luc Benhamou. Le son a été restauré par Léon Rousseau. Le film Golden Eighties a été restauré en 2024 par CINEMATEK et L'Immagine Ritrovata (Bologne), sous la supervision du cadreur du film, Luc Benhamou. Grâce au financement de NextGenerationEU et avec le soutien de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

70 years later, the "Seagulls" fly back to Cannes
The restoration of Seagulls Dying in the Harbour has been selected for Cannes Classics 2026

There are films that mark history, and then there are those that transform it. In 1956, Seagulls Die in the Harbour (Meeuwen sterven in de haven) became the first Belgian feature film in history to be selected for the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2026, seventy years after that historic breakthrough, this cult masterpiece is set to return to the Croisette in a brand-new restoration by CINEMATEK.

From the first of June 2026, we will be making a slight adjustment to our prices. In recent years, the costs associated with energy, maintenance of our building and projection infrastructure, film restoration and archive collection management have risen significantly. This change will enable us to continue maintaining our theatres, restoring and digitising fragile films, and supporting the daily work of our archivists.

Call for Papers: Jacques Feyder

CINEMATEK is pleased to announce its participation in the international conference dedicated to Belgian-French film director Jacques Feyder, a prominent European filmmaker of the 1920s and 1930s. Although widely acclaimed during his lifetime, Feyder’s contribution to film history has since been largely overlooked. This conference aims to re-examine his work, his influence, and his place within European and global cinema.
