Why CINEMATEK is changing its ticket prices

From the first of June 2026, we will be making a slight adjustment to our prices. In recent years, the costs associated with energy, maintenance of our building and projection infrastructure, film restoration and archive collection management have risen significantly. This change will enable us to continue maintaining our theatres, restoring and digitising fragile films, and supporting the daily work of our archivists.

Since Jacques Ledoux founded the Film Museum in 1962, CINEMATEK has had one clear mission: to preserve film heritage and make it accessible to as many people as possible. That mission remains at the heart of everything we do. What has changed, however, are the economic conditions in which we operate. In recent years, our operating costs have risen significantly. Energy prices have increased, maintaining our building and projection equipment requires more investment, and film restoration remains a complex and expensive process. Restoring, digitizing, and preserving films takes specialized expertise, dedicated equipment, and time. Caring for posters, photographs, and archival documents also adds ongoing costs.

As a public institution, we remain committed to keeping cinema accessible to everyone. At the same time, we need to ensure that our operations remain financially sustainable. That is why, starting 1 June 2026, we will introduce a modest ticket price adjustment.

It may seem like a small increase, but for us it makes a real difference. It allows us to maintain our cinema halls, restore fragile films, and support the daily work of our archivists.

1st of June 2026: New Ticket Prices

Regular tickets will increase from €6 to €7, while students, children (-12) and subscription tickets will rise from €3 to €3.50. The 10+1 loyalty card will also increase in price, from €60 to €70. This change helps us keep CINEMATEK running while ensuring the memorable experience that our visitors expect.

At the same time, we are making our annual subscription more accessible. The price will drop from €60 to €30 and the 65+ membership from €40 to €30. This allows regular visitors to enjoy our full program for a modest investment while keeping CINEMATEK welcoming and accessible to new audiences.

Introducing the Support Ticket

We are also introducing a new €10 support ticket. Of this, €7 covers your entry to the screening, and €3 goes directly to a specific project at CINEMATEK, such as film restoration or digitization of archival material. In this way, you contribute directly to the future of our film heritage. In our program and on our website, we will explain which project your contribution supports, which will have a different focus each year.

Our mission remains the same: to preserve, share, and celebrate film for generations to come. This small price adjustment is a necessary step to ensure we can continue doing this in the years ahead. We thank you for your understanding and support, and we look forward to welcoming you to CINEMATEK.
