Si l’énoncé se base sur un fondement de vérité – rares sont les personnes sans avis à la sortie d’une salle de cinéma –, la critique reste une activité méconnue, parfois mal comprise, et, surtout, peu pratiquée au-delà des discussions d’après séances. Elle est pourtant un exercice à la portée de tous·tes, loin de l’image qu’on lui donne trop souvent d’une pratique devant nécessairement s’appuyer sur une érudition cinématographique, puisque la relation intime que l’on noue avec une œuvre appartient à chacun·e et n’a besoin d’aucun prérequis particulier. À l’opposé de la prétendue objectivité à laquelle on voudrait cantonner la critique, l’accent sera mis sur la subjectivité et l’emploi du « je » lors de la réflexion autour du film.Cet atelier propose de revenir succinctement sur l’histoire de la critique, avant de s’essayer à l’exercice sur le film Matilda de Danny DeVito. Avec les participant·es, nous passerons par les différentes étapes de réflexion, d’écriture et d’enregistrement afin de construire un épisode de podcast de débat critique, et tenter de déplier l’œuvre autant que possible.

D’abord une conversation entre Catherine Gravet, spécialiste de la littérature belge, autrice et vicedoyenne au Service d’Études françaises et francophones de l’Université de Mons, Françoise Levie, productrice et réalisatrice, et Louise Van Brabant, autrice et essayiste. Ensuite, la projection des courts métrages La Choucroute (nouvelle de Jean Ray adaptée par Jean Delire) et Le Voyageur (nouvelle de Thomas Owen adaptée par Françoise Levie).
