From the 15th of September, anyone can vote for their favourite project. Anyone who votes will also be automatically entered into the Tombola where they can win really unique prizes.

10 Decades of Belgian Cinema

CINEMATEK presents a trip through 100 years of Belgian film history, as a celebration of Belgium’s upcoming 200-year anniversary. A project to digitally restore twelve films that all together retrace the unique story of Belgian cinema, from the 1910s to the 2010s.

The selection crosses languages, genres and artistic movements. Some highlights you’ll discover along the way are rare archival nitrate films from the early twentieth century, a film by the experimental filmmaker Charles Dekeukeleire, a surrealist pit-stop with our famous René Magritte, who was a very productive filmmaker, stopping by the poetic universe of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, giggling with Dominique Deruddere’s Oscar-nominated Iedereen Beroemd! and towards the end stopping at the bittersweet comedy Ultranova by Bouli Lanners.

Once restored, the films will return to cinemas across Belgium before becoming part of CINEMATEK RESTORED, CINEMATEK’s programme that brings restored films to audiences through screenings, educational activities, and digital access. This means you’ll be able to experience these beautifully restored films on the big screen and rediscover a century of Belgian cinema.

Vote for “10 Decades of Belgian Cinema” and help bring 100 years of Belgian film back to the big screen. Your vote will help preserve and restore these remarkable films and give new audiences the chance to experience Belgium’s rich cinematic heritage for generations to come.
