Set in the Qajar era, the film tells the story of power struggles within a wealthy household after the death of the family matriarch. The film's slow-paced, poetic storytelling and carefully composed cinematography create a haunting atmosphere. Originally screened in 1976, it was quickly banned after the Iranian Revolution and remained unseen for decades. However, in 2020, a restored version was shown at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving international acclaim.
This screening is organised in participation with Cinemaximiliaan and organiser and translater Rola Zamzameh.
